FoalGro is made using edible grade raw materials. Our products ensure optimal concentration for the growing foal and are formulated to match the nutritional profile of mare’s milk.

Q3: What sizes do FoalGro products come in?

A: FoalGro milk replacer comes in 1.25kg container (perfect to have ‘on hand’ and ready), also 5kg, 10kg and 20 kg.

The FoalGro pellets come in 1.5kg, 5kg and 25kg sizes.

Q4: What are FoalGro Pellets?

A: Grober FoalGro pellets are milk based pellets formulated to meet the nutritional needs of a newborn foal. It can be given to a foal 2days old and up. As well as being a complete feed, the pellets are a great supplement to top-up the nutrition of foals that are both mare raised, convalescing, compromised or orphaned foals (either hand raised or nurse mare raised).

FoalGro Pellets can also be given to pregnant mares in their last few months of gestation to meet the requirements of increased energy and nutrition.

Q5: Why is it important to keep some Milk Replacer in my Foaling Kit?

A: It is important to keep at least a 2 day supply of Milk Replacer (i.e.: FoalGro 1.25Kg size) in your foaling kit as most foals are born in the middle of the night or possibly on a weekend when the possibility of getting milk replacer might not be possible. If all goes well then you still have the option of just ‘topping up’ the foal’s nutrition by supplementing some milk replacer into their diet. As most breeders will not get their mares milk tested to see that it is meeting the foals needs, providing some milk replacer to the foal is a sound decision. There are many reasons to give a foal milk replacer and it does not just have to be orphans.

Q6: What are the other reasons for supplementing with milk replacer or milk pellets?

A: Foals with inadequate energy and nutrition have the potential for decreased growth, poor health and an inability to overcome stress and illness. In a perfect situation the foal would consume 10% of its body weight a day in milk from its mother for the first few days and increasing to 20% as they progress. Foals not receiving this amount may suffer from delayed development and stress. Giving the foal a few days of milk replacer on top of its mother’s milk ensures adequate energy and nutrition.

Milk replacers are also a benefit for foals with sick or weak mothers. By providing the foal with good quality milk replacer the mother can recover her strength and energy reserves. A mare attempting to recuperate can be quickly worn down by the demands of a nursing foal.

Milk replacer is also helpful for mares that have inadequate milk supply or have been tested to have a low nutritional value in their milk (ie. first time mares).

Grober FoalGro Milk replacer provides a consistent fortified source of fat, protein and balance of vitamins and minerals to optimize development.

Whether your foal will grow up to be a jumper, reiner, racer or just a pleasure horse, a healthy start in life is critical. Grober FoalGro is the proven formulation to provide optimal nutrition in the critical, early phase of life.
